vAOMS v0.5.0-BETA

Awards get a proper home, Pilots get a real Logbook. Downloads can now be laid out as an add-on x livery matrix, airports carry their real city and size, and touchdown rates and airport timezones are accurate across the board.

What's new

  • Awards

Pilots now have their own Awards section. A landing page shows your collection progress across achievement, tour and milestone awards, and each category opens into a full grid of every award available, collected ones in colour with the date you earned them, the rest greyed out with what it takes to unlock them. Tabs let you filter to just what you've earned or what's still out there.

  • Your Logbook

Every flight you've filed, laid out like a real pilot logbook: ruled columns grouped by aircraft, route and times, with running totals for the page and your career to date. Filter by year, aircraft, or ACARS versus manual, and search by flight number or airport.

  • Flight Records

Every logbook entry now opens into a full flight record — a departure-to-arrival strip, block and airborne times, touchdown rate with a grade, points and SkyMiles, your own filed notes, and the complete ACARS event log as a readable timeline. Pilots previously had no way to open their own PIREPs at all.

  • Livery matrix for Downloads

Download categories can be set to a matrix layout: aircraft down the rows, liveries across the columns, one download per cell. Six aircraft in four schemes becomes a single compact table instead of twenty-four near-identical cards, and gaps in the range are obvious at a glance. Set it per category in Helix under Downloads → Categories.

  • Airport city and size

Airports now carry the city they serve and their real-world size classification, both pulled from live airport data rather than typed in by hand.

  • Awards are granted automatically

Award rules now actually run. Set a rule on an award — flights flown, hours, distance, points, landing rate, airports visited, length of service, or participation in a tour or event — and vAOMS grants it the moment a pilot qualifies, on PIREP approval. Awards can also grant bonus points on every future flight, as a flat amount or a percentage. Run awards:evaluate after adding an award to grant it to pilots who already qualify.

  • Crop banner images on upload

News banner images can now be uploaded directly and cropped in place — drag the crop box to choose exactly which part of the image the dashboard banner shows. Images are cropped to the banner's 1920×610 ratio, so an oddly-sized upload no longer stretches the dashboard. Linking to an externally-hosted image still works.

  • Instant notices and NOTAMs

Notices and NOTAMs now appear in a pilot's notification bell the moment they're published, without a refresh. Platform-wide announcements reach every pilot on the system.

  • Partners

A partners directory managed by vAOMS Staff, with categories, published/prospective status and per-partner logos. Shown on the public partners page, inside the pilot area, and as a logo strip on the landing page.

  • Account reactivation

Pilots who fall below their airline's activity requirement now land on a dedicated page explaining the requirement and their grace deadline, and can reactivate themselves rather than silently losing access.

  • Apply activity requirements to staff

A new option in Helix. Airline staff have always been exempt from activity checks; airlines that expect staff to fly like everyone else can now switch that off.

  • Live figures on the landing page

Flights completed, registered users and flights today are read from the database instead of being hardcoded.

  • Recent releases on the landing page

The three most recent changelog entries are shown publicly.

What's improved

  • Badges are now Awards

Badges have been renamed to Awards everywhere, Helix navigation, pilot pages, Discord notifications and CSV imports. Existing awards, rules and everything already granted to pilots carry over untouched. Note that Helix's Badges page has moved to Progression → Awards, so old bookmarks will need updating.

  • Downloads sections are predictable

Each download now has an explicit Section that decides where it appears, instead of the page guessing from whichever category happened to be attached first. New add-on and livery pack filters sit alongside the existing category and simulator ones.

  • ACARS flights are recognised properly

Flights submitted straight through vAOMS Connect are now correctly identified as ACARS flights rather than manual entries, wherever they appear.

  • Airport timezones

Airport timezones are now resolved from the airport's actual coordinates, so island destinations land in the right zone.

  • Branding in Helix and Aegis

Both admin panels now carry the vAOMS logo instead of plain text, with light and dark variants.

  • Real download counts for vAOMS Connect

The ACARS and Downloads pages now show how many times Connect has actually been downloaded, counted live instead of a fixed figure. The count starts fresh from this release.

  • Reworked Landing page

The landing page has been rebuilt around what vAOMS actually is today: an open beta you can join early and shape, a real airline running on it, and vAOMS Connect as our own purpose-built ACARS client.

What's fixed

  • Average touchdown rate on the pilot dashboard showed 0 fpm for pilots whose flights were submitted directly through vAOMS Connect.
  • Touchdown rates were shown as positive numbers, they now read as a descent, e.g. -162 fpm.
  • Airports in island territories were assigned the wrong timezone: Palma de Mallorca resolved to Atlantic/Canary and Madeira to Atlantic/Azores.
  • Downloads could move between sections unpredictably when a file was tagged with more than one category.
  • The logbook API returned a link to a PIREP page that did not exist.
  • The Awards link appeared in the sidebar even for airlines with awards switched off, leading pilots to a 404.
  • Award rules and award bonus points could be configured but never took effect.
  • The dashboard banner stretched out of shape when a news image was not the banner's ratio.
  • Platform notices never reached pilots instantly, they only appeared on the next page load, and never in the notification bell.
  • NOTAMs did not appear in the notification bell.
  • vAOMS Connect checked the wrong URL for updates and reported a manifest error.
  • The ACARS client never received airline NOTAMs, only notices.
  • Platform notices appeared in the dashboard banner carousel, which is for airline content.
  • Long changelog posts in Discord were cut off mid-sentence, with no way to read the rest. Posts now link to the full changelog and trim between entries rather than mid-word.
  • ACARS update checks failed because the release manifest is published as a Velopack feed, which the version check could not read, so it reported no release at all. It now reads the feed correctly and ignores delta packages, which cannot be installed on their own.
  • Activity requirements appeared to do nothing when enabled by airline staff, because staff accounts were silently skipped. This is now explicit and configurable.
  • The landing page's main call-to-action pointed at a page that did not exist.
